Back to Business

As you might imagine, it's been a very busy summer, so it's been quite a
while since I've had a chance to check in, but I'm very excited about the
new season and hope all of you Spurs fans are, too.
My new teammates all seem to be fitting well into our system on both the
offensive and defensive ends. It is also great to have a solid core of
guys back from last year. If we can stay healthy, I feel like this team
could be even stronger than last year. I can also tell you that it may be
a little different brand of Spurs basketball than last year with a quicker
pace, more passing, and sharper shooting. I'm truly excited.
For me, personally, this summer was really packed with activity. I got to
participate in the Olympics, which was always a goal of mine when I was
growing up. Of course, back then I thought I would be doing it as a
competitive swimmer!
I am really happy for Manu winning the Gold. He and his team played very
well, and he hasn't let me forget it, either. Although some may think
winning the Bronze was a disappointment, I was very proud of the way our
USA team came together, and what all we accomplished with the pieces we
had. Being part of the Olympics was a dream come true for me.
During the off-season, I also got to go home to the Virgin Islands. It was
great to spend time with family and old friends there. I always try to
participate each summer in a basketball-filled weekend that a good friend
from St. Croix puts on each year and my Foundation helps sponsor. It is a
great way to stay involved with my community there, and I always enjoy
being home! We also do a free basketball clinic for the local kids in St.
Croix. I enjoy seeing kids come out with that thirst for knowledge that I
had when I was just starting to learn how to play. It is fun for me to
share my experiences with them.
Other than that, my summer was so committed with USA Basketball that what
little remaining free time I had, I just spent at home with my wife and
our dogs relaxing and just enjoying some down time. I truly savored and
enjoyed those free moments.
Now it is October, and it's back to business already. Amazing how quickly
time passes.
Drop me an email with your questions or feedback to td21@slamduncan.com. I'll see you at the game!
