NBA Champions

Wow! What a season this was! Winning the NBA Championship was special
for me in many ways.
Part of it was how we won that game. How exciting it was to be part
of that.
Part of it was where we won, since we were able to do it at home in
front of our fans.
But one of the biggest thrills was playing those last final minutes
with Big D (aka David Robinson). To be able to send him off that way
was huge for us and for him. We had so many guys like Danny Ferry,
Kevin Willis, and Steve Smith that had played for so long, and had
never gotten the Championship. Doing it for David and all of the
other guys was one of the things that drove us this past year.
It still hasn't really hit me that David won't be with us next year.
He is a part of this team in so many ways. He will definitely be
missed, but we all take pride in knowing that he will still be around
and doing great things in our city and communities.
It took a great deal of work and commitment from every single player,
coach, and member of the Spurs family to make it to the top. If we
want to take it to that level again next season, it will take even
more effort due to the simple fact that every other team wants what
we have...the NBA title. Not just in the playoffs, but every
night we play we will be the target- no matter where we are.
During the season after the first championship, I got injured and was
not able to help defend that title the next year during the playoffs.
So one of my concerns going into the summer playing with the U.S.
Olympic team, will be to try to stay in top shape and healthy. I'm
looking forward to those challenges as well. It's a great honor to be
playing for USA Basketball.
Thank you all for your tremendous support and help this year. Our
fans are so much like our team- all heart! I appreciate it and know
all my teammates do, too. We couldn't have done it without you.
Thanks!
