Memphis Grizzlies 93, San Antonio Spurs 90

Memphis, TN Nov. 22 / Wire Reports --
Facing the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year, Bonzi Wells made sure he had one more in him. Wells scored
a season high 26 points, including a three pointer over a charging Manu Ginobili with 47.3 seconds to play, to give the
Grizzlies the lead and a little payback with a 93-90 win over the Spurs.
The Spurs would have a couple of chances to force overtime, the first coming when Tim Duncan drove into the lane for a dunk
over Wells with eighteen seconds left. Duncan and the Spurs bench erupted after the play because Wells fouled Duncan but the
officials had swallowed their whistles at that point. The final chance came with 0.3 to play, but Brent Barry was unable to
get a shot off before the clock expired.
Barry came on strong in the third to give the Spurs their largest lead of the night (65-59). After a slow start to the
quarter that saw San Antonio turn the ball over four times, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich inserted Barry into the lineup for
some better ball handling. Barry sparked a 9-2 run by scoring five points, forcing a Memphis timeout.
Grizzlies coach Hubie Brown went back to his bench and the results were immediate. A 12-3 run ended the quarter and gave the
home team a 71-68 lead heading to the final quarter.
Duncan led the Spurs with 26 points and 9 rebounds. Joining him in double figures was Parker, who after the sixteen point
first half, scored just two points in the second half, and Barry added 12 points. Rose was another solid contributor off the
bench, scoring 7 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. In addition to the 26 points from Wells, Memphis got 13 points and 7
rebounds from Cardinal, and 10 points and 10 rebounds from Wright.
